APB IP acquired by free-to-play company K2 Network

Soon after the launch of the MMO All Points Bulletin (APB) the developer behind it, Realtime Worlds, was reduced to a skeleton crew with an uncertain future. This put the future of APB in jeopardy and eventually meant the servers were turned off and gamers left out of pocket.

Now it looks like the MMO may get a new lease of life as the rights have just been acquired by Californian company K2 Network for around $2.4 million.

What remains unclear is what form a new APB game will take. The reason for the uncertainty is K2′s focus on releasing free-to-play games through its GamersFirst site. Could it be APB goes free-to-play, or could this be K2′s excuse to get into subscriptions?

K2 focuses on localizing games from Asia and bringing them to Western markets. It also sells G1 credits for use in-game making it likely APB will be converted to use the G1 credit system and potentially be free-to-play.

For now no official statement has been released by K2, (apb gold)but we’re sure they won’t hang around too long before getting the game, or at least some derivative of it, up on GamersFirst.
